Psychological safety
Respectful conversations that make room for uncertainty, complexity and the pace of the person seeking support.
About Dr Better
Dr Better brings counselling psychology, public education and grounded everyday conversation together with warmth and clarity.
Biography
Nkululeko Benedict Mhlongo, affectionately known as Dr Better, is a counselling psychologist focused on emotional well-being, healing and personal growth.
His work supports individuals, learners, educators and families by creating safe, empowering spaces where difficult experiences can be explored without judgement. His approach is compassionate and practical, helping make psychological support feel understandable and accessible.
Alongside counselling, Dr Better contributes to public mental-health education through television, speaking engagements, social conversations and brand collaborations. This wider work reflects a belief that useful psychological insight should meet people where life is already happening.
Counselling is not about forcing a person into a fixed idea of wellness. It is a collaborative process of noticing patterns, understanding context and making space for more intentional choices.
Support can begin before you have the right words. The conversation can help you find them.
Dr Better is a Registered Counselling Psychologist and PhD candidate at the University of the Witwatersrand (HPCSA registration no. PS 0145394, practice no. 0871230). Beyond the therapy room, he is a media personality, a guest contributor to The Citizen newspaper and presenter of Roxic on SABC 1.
